With more than 28 years’ experience, Michael specialises in workers compensation, common law and recovery actions.
He acts on behalf of major insurers, self insured corporations and specialised insurers.
Michael has successfully represented parties in a number of leading appeals including Mayne Nickless in Mayne Nickless v Symen NSWCA 292 which set a precedent for the concept of ‘defect in the motor vehicle’ under the Motor Accidents Act 1988. The result enabled Mayne to obtain the benefit of its CTP policy to indemnify it and avoid liability pursuant to the Workers Compensation Act 1987.
Widely recognised as an expert in his field, Michael is committed to early resolution techniques to conclude claims. He also advises large corporate clients on issues of risk management and litigation portfolio management.
Michael has represented insurers, self insured corporations and regulators at Parliamentary Inquiries.
In 1990 Michael was appointed as an Acting Assistant Registrar of the Compensation Court of NSW. He also serves on various committees of the NSW Law Society, including the Court’s Liaison Committee. In 1998 Michael was appointed to represent the NSW Law Society in the State Government’s enquiry into workers compensation, which culminated in significant changes to the Workers Compensation Act.
Michael has been a Law Society of NSW Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury since 1994. In 1998 he was appointed by the Law Society as an examiner of solicitors seeking specialist accreditation.
