Nicola has over 14 years’ experience in a variety of insurance contexts but primarily in professional indemnity and health law.

In the professional indemnity context, Nicola has defended claims against a broad range of professionals: solicitors, architects, engineers, financial planners, accountants, brokers, surveyors and real estate agents.

She also has extensive experience in the defence of medico-legal claims on behalf of hospitals, doctors, dentists and a variety of allied health professionals including catastrophic claims (including quadriplegia and wrongful conception/birth) and dependency claims.

In addition to civil claims experience, Nicola has represented doctors and allied health professionals in coronial inquests, Commissions of Inquiry and in regulatory proceedings concerning performance, impairment and registration.

Nicola’s clients include both domestic and international insurers as well as federal, state and local government entities.

She has handled claims in the majority of Australian courts and the Queensland Civil & Administrative Tribunal. She was also successful in having a trial judgement against a solicitor/law firm overturned in the Queensland Court of Appeal (and the application for special leave to the High Court refused).

Nicola has additionally handled the defence of a number of case-sensitive matters (including matters involving allegations of sexual abuse against various institutions) and successfully negotiated confidential settlements out of the media spotlight. Her past experience also includes having the primary conduct of the defence of a class action matter concerning a ‘sick building’.
