Norman Abrams is the senior partner in the Australian Government practice in the Melbourne office. He has more than 30 years litigation experience involving civil claims such as property damage and personal injury, claims for pure economic loss and breach of contract, dispute resolution matters, WHS enforcement action as well as administrative law actions. In addition, he acts in coronial inquests.
Norman currently acts for a number of Commonwealth agencies, state government departments and corporate clients, providing legal advice, advocacy services and risk management advice and assistance in a range of areas.
He has extensive experience in acting for clients in work health and safety matters, with particular expertise in advising government departments and agencies and private sector clients on compliance with their health and safety duties. He also manages responses to WHS issues that may arise – both reactively but also in a proactive fashion, including implementation of safety systems and auditing to assist with due diligence obligations. Norman has also worked with many clients in making submissions to government and, in particular in the area of health and safety.
Norman has been approved pursuant to Section 63 of the Judiciary Act 1903 (Cth) to accept service of proceedings where the Commonwealth is named as a party to a suit.
Norman has been ranked in the peer-reviewed ‘Best Lawyers’ reports published annually by the Australia Financial Review since 2012.
