Philip has been practising as a litigation lawyer for in excess of 38 years. For the majority of that period, and exclusively for the past 20 years, he has acted for defendants and insurers.
His major area of practice for the past 25 years has been acting for CSR and its subsidiaries in defending asbestos-related disease claims.
Philip has had extensive experience in acting for professional indemnity insurers for in excess of 20 years covering all professions but with particular emphasis on health professionals, including medical practitioners and private hospitals, as well as construction professionals.
Philip also specialises in advising on insurance indemnity under all types of insurance policy, whether professional indemnity, directors and officers or general liability, and has been involved in many cases dealing with such an issue.
In recent times, Philip has acted for the Convenor of Medical Panels, and on his instruction for Medical Panels, in judicial review applications of Medical Panel determinations and opinions.
He is a Life Member of the Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA) having been a member of the inaugural committee of the Victorian Branch in 1983, a President and Secretary of the Victorian Branch for a number of years and National Secretary from 1991 to 1996 as well as Board member until 1999.
Philip has been ranked in the peer-reviewed ‘Best Lawyers’ reports published annually by the Australia Financial Review since 2012.
