For over 25 years, Simon has practised almost exclusively in the area of accident compensation with particular emphasis on statutory insurance through compulsory third party (CTP) and workers compensation claims.

Simon has extensive experience processing claims in the pre-litigation phase and litigating in all Queensland courts. He has experience across a range of injury types, in particular catastrophic injury and stress claims.

He has a considerable track record representing clients in regional Queensland and in particular the central and northern jurisdictions.

He is a skilled negotiator with extensive experience negotiating resolution of claims through mediation and face-to-face conferences without involvement of Counsel.

Such claims requires extensive detailed investigation of tax, health, social security and care regimes operating in countries including Japan, France, Switzerland, Netherlands and the UK. He has also represented insurers in several disputes involving interstate jurisdiction and choice of law problems.

In the area of workers compensation Simon has, since his admission to practice in 1984, acted for WorkCover Queensland and a number of self-insured corporations under the Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003.

Simon has also acted for a range of clients in relation to workplace health and safety issues. He has also acted for clients in defending prosecutions for alleged breaches of workplace health and safety legislation.

Simon has advised numerous insurance clients on policy amendments and drafting and settling insurance policies as well as acting for insurers in relation to compliance and regulatory matters.
