Alwyn has significant experience in compulsory third party (CTP) claims, including major catastrophic claims.

Alwyn has specialised in motor vehicle compensation law for over 25 years, first as an in-house solicitor within a large Australian insurer for eight years, and then in private practice as an insurance lawyer and partner. In that time, he has been involved in District Court circuits from Sydney to the Queensland border and west to Dubbo.

In addition to litigated matters, Alwyn is heavily involved in CARS matters and frequently carries out both the preparation and the advocacy.

Alwyn’s previous experience includes the role of major claims solicitor for the Northern Region office of GIO, where he handled claims in excess of $400,000. The claims were all litigated and the injuries ranged from brain damage, amputation, paraplegia, quadriplegia, severe orthopaedic injuries, disfigurement and blindness. Claims involved assessment of quantum and liability and provision of rehabilitation, medical needs and care and the preparation of matters for informal settlement or court hearing.

Alwyn then moved from GIO to Mercantile Mutual, where he was responsible for reviewing that insurer’s serious claims portfolio.

Currently, Alwyn currently handles a varied portfolio of CTP claims with around 10% involving major catastrophic injuries.

He is a Law Society of NSW Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury.
