Catherine is a partner in our Sydney office and leads the life insurance team in Sydney.
Her expertise extends to all aspects of life and general insurance, including conducting litigation, advising regarding remedies available under relevant legislation and reviewing policies and product disclosure statements.
Catherine has an enviable list of clients who seek her out for her commercial and pragmatic advice. She has defended claims for insurers in NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and the ACT and is well versed in the unique procedural requirements of each jurisdiction.
Catherine acted on behalf of the trustee in the 2011 NSW Court of Appeal decision in Manglicmot v CBOSC. This case considered whether a person who can only work part time is total and permanent disablement as well as the duties imposed upon trustees by s52 Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act 1993 (Cth).
Catherine is highly aware that the financial services industry faces increasing regulation and scrutiny and that as a consequence, litigation has potential reputational and financial costs to insurers. She conducts litigation with an eye to achieving the best possible outcome and enhancing the reputation of her clients.
