Grant’s key areas of practice are coverage advice to the insurance industry, complex professional indemnity and directors’ and officers’ disputes and commercial litigation. He has particular expertise in handling disputes involving the financial services and institutions sector.

Grant’s clients include leading Australian insurers, underwriters and underwriting agencies. He also acts for professionals in the fields of accounting, auditing, financial planning, finance and insurance broking, mortgage broking and aggregating, property valuation, civil and structural engineering and construction.

During his career, Grant has acted as coverage counsel in various major matters, including the insurer of a financial planning company that collapsed amidst notification of more than 50 claims arising from ‘cookie cutter’ advice to a diverse range of clients. He has also advised insurers on coverage-related issues under various management liability policies.

Other notable matters include advising a reinsurer on ‘year of allocation’ issues concerning a number of related claims arising from the alleged decrease in value of the homes of a group of residents affected by local coastal management policy, advising a property valuer on the availability of a proportionate liability defence, including running a separate question as to its availability, and advising and acting for a mortgage aggregator in litigation that culminated in the High Court of Australia in Hunt & Hunt Lawyers v Mitchell Morgan Nominees Pty Ltd [2013] HCA 10.
