Mark came to law after a long career in audit and prosecutions, including income tax and information technology advice at the Australian Taxation Office.

Mark has extensive experience in public liability, professional indemnity and product liability insurance. He also acts in contractual disputes relating to building and construction and has a strong background in environmental and planning law.

Mark advised Pasminco Cockle Creek Smelter in relation to all environmental and planning matters, including plant expansion and upgrading, Protection of the Environment Operations Act licence matters, the defence of ‘toxic tort’ claims, environmental prosecutions, and issues relating to plant closure and ongoing obligations under the Contaminated Land Management Act.

He advised a sand miner in relation to closing down mining and processing operations in Eastern NSW, including advice on existing use rights and the rehabilitation and sale of former mining sites and waste dumps. He also advised electric lamp manufacturers and Sandvijk Australia in relation to similar issues.

He has advised clients including developers and manufacturers in relation to general planning and Land and Environment Court matters.

Mark acts in general litigation matters including building and construction cases and commercial matters. He has represented local government at coronial inquests.

He is a member of the Environmental and Planning Law Association and presented the definitive paper ‘Existing Use Rights’ to the Environmental and Planning Law Association Annual Conference.
