Michael is the Chairman of Moray & Agnew.
Michael became a Partner in 1971 after completing his articles with Sydney H Moray and has been with the firm ever since. He has 40 years experience working exclusively in the insurance industry and in-depth knowledge of the firm.
Recognised as an outstanding litigator, Michael successfully led Moray & Agnew’s thriving workers compensation practice, and one of Australia’s largest. He was involved in a number of precedent setting cases before the Privy Council and the High Court of Australia, involving the interpretation of legislation regarding employment issues.
Michael assumed a full-time management position in 2003, when he was appointed Chairman and National Managing Partner. Since then he has led the expansion of Moray & Agnew beyond Sydney to include five other offices across the east and west coast of Australia.
Michael has earned a reputation as a confident strategic leader and is well respected by his partners, staff, clients and peers. He is ranked as one of Australia’s Top 10 legal leaders having ‘presided over strong growth at Moray & Agnew in the face of difficult conditions which have included tort reform and reduced litigation. Far from lying low however, the firm has instead gone into expansion mode’.
Other publications including The Australian Financial Review commended Michael for being the first Australian law firm to adopt sophisticated multi-million dollar practice management systems to better manage and serve its insurance client. The Australian acknowledged Michael for his role in formulating the firm’s approach to helping female lawyers manage their career and family commitments.
Traditionally a specialist insurance firm, under Michael’s leadership, the firm has established complementary corporate, commercial, workplace and construction practices, in response to client demand.
