Sarah has specialised in conducting insurance litigation for more than 20 years. She has considerable expertise in the defence of a diverse range of public liability claims and property damage claims. This includes handling several catastrophic injury claims plus workers’ common law claims and Victorian WorkCover Authority section 138 recovery claims.

Sarah has also been involved in several notable class actions and has managed a number of claims of professional misconduct against healthcare professionals covered by financial lines insurance.

Other experience includes acting for several major insurers in complex and technical recovery proceedings involving corporate clients from industry sectors such as engineering, paper manufacturing and livestock. Sarah’s credentials in this area include effective liaison with numerous expert witnesses and successfully settling proceedings with full recovery for her insurer and insured clients.

More recently, Sarah has acted in numerous claims involving Victorian Government agencies such as Parks Victoria, VicRoads and V/Line.

In addition, Sarah has acted for the insurer of many Victorian schools and universities over many years. She has particular experience in handling sensitive claims, some of which involve claims of bullying of primary and secondary school students, and discrimination and harassment claims by university students and staff.

She is skilled in insurance policy interpretation as well as successfully managing claims where there is a significant uninsured component to the loss.

Sarah maintains a strong focus on early settlement and proactively manages all claims. She frequently participates in successful mediations and settlement conferences, while running cases to successful verdicts (or appeal) where settlement has proven impracticable.
